Location: Salle XXVI, Palais des Nations, Geneva, Switzerland
Description:Fish and seafood is one of the most traded food commodities in the world. Some 38 per cent of world production enters international trade, of which more than half originates in developing countries.
The livelihoods of some 660 to 880 million people depend on this sector, yet the basis of this prosperity is fragile: wild stocks are under increasing pressure, and improvements are necessary to more effectively harness the power of trade within value chains and their related services.
To this end, the Second Oceans Forum on the Trade-Related Aspects of SDG 14 will analyze, share country experiences and identify public and private best practices towards proposing specific actions and policy recommendations for harnessing trade to conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development. Please join UN Environment’s Environment and Trade Hub, and our partners, the UN Conference on Trade and Development and the Food and Agriculture Organization, as we take stock, exchange experiences and present options for the implementation of trade-related targets of SDG 14.
