Organisation: Global Health Centre and the World Health Organization

LocationAuditorium Ivan Pictet, Maison de la paix

Description: In health emergencies, time and resources are often limited and quick decisions are needed to respond to the rapidly unfolding and changing course of events. This can lead to ethical dilemmas as experienced in the outbreaks of Zika and Ebola.

How can different stakeholders incorporate ethics during the public health response to infectious disease outbreaks? How can these actors prepare for the ethical questions and dilemmas they may face?

This panel discussion will explore the various dimensions of an outbreak response, how ethics can provide the moral compass for making decisions under pressure, and how recent large-scale outbreaks changed the face of how organisations work with affected communities in the field.
