Description: With Rajagopal P.V., Gandhian activist

Rajagopal P.V. is a Gandhian activist, former Vice Chairman of the Gandhi Peace Foundation, New Delhi, and the president and founding member of Ekta Parishad, a non-violent movement promoting rights to natural resources for the most underprivileged people. (see his detailed biography below).

He launched the Jai Jagat 2020 Global Peace Campaign designed to uplift people from fear and discontent to have them take positive action. Jai Jagat means “Victory of the World”. Indeed, no one country or group of people alone can bring genuine change. The increasingly destructive trends need to be countered by coordinated and simultaneous, local and global action. This campaign is to be international to advance the survival agenda of nature and people on the planet. It is promoting local to global solidarity through a Global Peace Walk and a Geneva’s People’s Action Forum. Those events aim to bring together a large number of young people to reconstruct a world that gives hope and values peace, using the frameworks of human rights, social justice, opposition to militarisation and war, climate change and people’s access to resources.

In this workshop, Rajagopal will share his experience of non-violent practices that have been successful in convincing armed groups to lay their weapons, and governmental authorities to change policies and improve access of poor farmers to natural resources (land, water, forest). Such non-violent strategies may be applicable in a host of everyday situations and useful for professionals engaged in mediation, capacity building, leadership, decision-making, crisis management, countering violent extremism, etc.
