PROMOTE PEACEFUL AND INCLUSIVE SOCIETIES FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT, PROVIDE ACCESS TO JUSTICE FOR ALL AND BUILD EFFECTIVE, ACCOUNTABLE AND INCLUSIVE INSTITUTIONS AT ALL LEVELS
Geneva has strong and diverse expertise on peace and security related issues including justice, institutional governance, demining, anti-crime, anti-terrorism and violence prevention.
The Pathfnders Initiative has created a Road Map for SDG 16+ on Peaceful, Just and Inclusive Societies and takes an active role in assisting national and international implementation as well as addressing “grand challenges” that act as barriers to SDG 16.
Through their “Mobilizing Parliaments for the SDGs,” the InterParliamentary Union (IPU) works to engage parliamentarians in SDG implementation at the national level and encourages participation in multilateral review processes like the HLPF.
Peace, justice and strong institutions (SDG 16) are important enablers for most of the other SDGs as they lie the foundation for how governments interact with other parts of society.
