Realizing the 2030 Agenda

SCROLL DOWN

Realizing the 2030 Agenda

Mobilizing Geneva's capacity, skills, experience and ideas to implement the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Defining Agenda

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development will serve as the over-riding framework for domestic and international development over the next fifteen years.

The Agenda – the Declaration and the associated Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) –  has reinvigorated the sustainable development community, but implementing it will be a complex task.  Seventeen goals, one-hundred-sixty-nine targets and a range of complementary undertakings set out in the Addis Ababa Action Agenda on Financing for Development make for a serious challenge.

“Business as Usual” cannot deliver the desired results of what is cast as a “transformative” agenda.  Transformative approaches will have to be developed for every aspect of the implementation challenge – how we gather and present knowledge and learning, how we make relevant data available, how we design and manage partnerships, how finance is mobilized, and how the different players in the economic, social and environmental spheres reconfigure to rise to the challenge of achieving the goals and honouring the Declaration.  There is a strong sense that this is the last chance to secure the future we want and we cannot afford to miss it.

Geneva Potential

Geneva Potential

There are hundreds of organizations including UN Agencies, International Organizations, NGOs, private sector entities and academic institutions in Geneva that are advancing work that contributes to achieving the 2030 Agenda.

Geneva is viewed as the technical and operational centre of the UN family.  With the 2030 Agenda being formally adopted in 2015, the expertise found in Geneva is needed to support implementation efforts around the globe.

An Ecosystem Approach

An Ecosystem Approach

The objective of the Geneva 2030 Ecosystem is to mobilize the capacity, skills, experience, ideas and motivation of Geneva-based actors towards realizing the 2030 Agenda.

This will be done by configuring their collective knowledge in new ways to foster partnerships, share lessons-learned and support the creation of solutions to cross-cutting challenges and barriers to successful implementation of the SDGs.

The Geneva 2030 Ecosystem aims to drive action in the following areas:

Knowledge Mobilization

The Ecosystem works to translate the knowledge and expertise of Geneva-based actors into actionable knowledge products that can support SDG implementation.

POLICY AND PRACTICE INNOVATION

The Ecosystem utilizes the multidisciplinary expertise of Geneva-based actors to develop solutions to key challenges in policy and practice through design and systems thinking, foresight methodologies, multi-stakeholder dialogue, and coordinated research and analysis.

PARTNERSHIP BUILDING, ALIGNMENT, AMPLIFICATION

The Ecosystem connects and convenes diverse actors in Geneva to encourage collaboration, build partnerships, share lessons-learned, exchange information, and promote individual efforts.  This creates the opportunity to build on each other’s work and advance the Agenda as a united front.
