TAKE URGENT ACTION TO COMBAT CLIMATE CHANGE AND ITS IMPACTS
Geneva plays an important, niche role in fghting global climate through measurement and monitoring of earth systems. In addition there are a number of actors that focus on resilience, adaptation and disaster response.
The Group on Earth Observations (GEO) Carbon and Greenhouse Gas Initiative facilitates development of a coordinated system of overarching observations for monitoring and evaluating changes in the carbon and other cycles, and GHG emissions as they relate to human activities and global change.
The National Adaptation Planning (NAP) process aims to reduce vulnerability and increase resilience of developing countries to the impacts of climate change. The NAP Global Network aims to enhance national adaptation planning and action in developing countries through coordination of bilateral support and incountry actors. The Network also facilitates international peer learning and exchange.
Climate change is fundamentally changing the world’s natural systems (SDG 14, 15) and affecting the health (SDG 3) and livelihoods (SDG 8) of people. Mass changes in energy (SDG 7), agriculture (SDG 2), transport (SDG 11), and consumption (SDG 12) systems will be required to combat this global threat.
